St. Nicholas Church, Swafield

Activities

On March 20th 2026 the church of St Nicholas, Swafield began the next phase of its 700+ years history by incorporating a community arts centre into its nave.

St Nicks Arts Centre https://st-nicks.co.uk serves as a model of how an historic rural church can evolve into a thriving arts and community hub without losing its sacred and heritage identity. This initiative ensures that St Nicholas remains at the heart of Swafield and the local area — not only as a spiritual space, but as a beacon for creativity, learning and community spirit for generations to come.

The 4 medieval bells are currently in Somerset being restored, they should return the week of 9th June and be rehung – and heard as a set for the first time in over 100 years!

Due to its dual usage the church is locked except for services & events, although the Churchwarden lives just three minutes away and is more than happy to open up for visitors (Tim 01692 402624).

St Nicholas continues as a Chapel of Ease with christenings, weddings, funerals and monthly services in Spring, Summer & Autumn. Regular services are held in St Botolph’s in Trunch on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month.

Our Group service of Holy Communion moves each Sunday, for full details see our ‘What’s On‘ page.
